What Differentiates Winning Dentists From Those Struggling?
A great question, right?
Depending on your state of mind right now, the answer may surprise you. Then again, you may not be surprised, and instead, just frustrated.
The answer is simple. And, for many reading this, the frustrated dentist who knows a better future is ahead of them, it’ll be welcome news. For those already successful in their mind’s eye, perhaps, confirmation.
So what is it? What’s the “elusive” secret?
Unequivocally, it’s who you surround yourself with that ultimately determines your level of success in any endeavor – business, personal life, financial and physical fitness and more – to include dentistry.
You can’t escape this rule of nature.
Knowing you can’t escape it means two things:
1. You accept who you are and where you are in life and live with it.
Or…
2. You say, “Eat my dust!” and quickly change your life to better position yourself for a brighter, happier, more fulfilling future.
There is no in between. There is no “half-pregnant” as the old saying goes. You either are or you are not.
So…are you a winning dentist? If you’re not where you want to be and it’s time to make that change, I have a simple proposition for you:
First, decide change is your mantra. The status quo is out. And, you’ll do whatever necessary to get off your rusty dusty and get to work. You promise yourself to find new friends and influencers to hang out with – both in your invaluable personal time and in business. Promise yourself. Now…promise me you’ll do the same. ANNOUNCE to your spouse, your kids, your employees, that…THIS, 2017, is the year of change. Don’t say it under your breath. Don’t mumble it. ANNOUNCE IT! Make a PROCLAMATION!
Second…on a professional level, you must also accept that change is required. You must once again PROMISE yourself (and others, or it won’t work) to take advantage of opportunities to surround yourself with winners and those who, frankly, know more than you…to absorb their knowledge, their passion, their “ways” of success.
Now, I’m not asking you to give up your religion. I am however, asking you to fully commit to the changes you want. Again, you can’t do this with just ‘toe in the water’ approach like perhaps you’ve done in the past.
I know…it won’t be easy. You’ll be tempted to revert back to the path of least resistance. That’s OK if you’re in the air or water. Least resistance there is most efficient. But, that’s not how success works… What’s worse, you’ll be pressured by that mighty organ, the brain, to just be lazy…because, it will reason with you, “…the change you want is just too much work.”
DO NOT become the slave to your “lazy” brain. It must work for you and be your slave to help you get what you want…not the other way around. It’s your servant. You are not its.
Now, you have to be all-in or don’t bother.
Capiché?
You with me so far?
Good.
Now, next, and this is where I know you’ll throw up some resistance with excuses galore…but don’t you worry – there are many, many others who will be doing what I am going to ask you to do. In fact, over the next 12 months there will be HUNDREDS doing it, so you won’t be alone. Don’t worry… OK?
Keep telling yourself: “Self, while change may be uncomfortable, that discomfort is only a feeling, not a permanent state of mind,” and, you can will, or push out the discomfort from your mind…banish it like the coward it is.
Next, here’s what I want you to do…I want you to commit to EDUCATING yourself in the ways of business.
I do want you to keep your required clinical CE up-to-date, of course…but, I want you to commit to becoming the best businessman/woman you can be. And, right now, neither one of us are…just like dentistry and those clinical skills, the School of Business is never out for the pro.
And, I know, you’re a pro. Or, you want to be otherwise you’d not be reading this.
Now, it’s application time…Here are a couple of places I want you to be in 2017. And, no, these are non-negotiable. 🙂
Ready?
– The Jerry Jones Direct New Patient Extravaganza. Info @ http://busydentist.com. Go there now and get signed up. It’s dirt cheap, too. I’m teaching for 2 days on 4 different dates in 2017. This may not happen again, so don’t dilly-dally. The first one is February 24th 25th. You need new patients, and I’m telling you, there is no better course you’ll take in your life to learn exactly how to increase new patient flow, on demand.
– Attend the AADPA Annual Meeting in March. It’s March 3-5 in St. Pete’s, FL. Info here at: http://aadpa.org/meetings-education/annual-meeting You can meet Dr. Pete Dawson, too. And, you’ll be surrounded by some of the finest individuals in dentistry. I’ll be speaking on two different topics and leading a lunch table mastermind on peak productivity and time management. The American Academy of Dental Practice is dentistry’s oldest organization dedicated to sharing the best of the best in practice management. Seriously…this organization is tops in dentistry.
I said, a couple of places, right? These are two in February and March you must attend if you truly agree with my premise above.
Don’t choose between the two. Go to both. You’re going to get two completely different experiences and if your practice doesn’t jump 10% or more by April after implementing what you learn at both events, show me your numbers and I’ll personally mentor you for 4 hours – 1 hour a week for a full month.
Yes, I’m putting my money where my mouth is.
Take action. If you want 2017 to be the year of change and you’ve promised yourself, I’ve laid out a plan of action…the next step is yours.
