Hey Doc,

Question for ya: Do you know what your practice has to collect every day to meet your overhead obligations?

You might also know the term “overhead” as your B.A.M. (bare ass minimum).

Or, “nut.” (As in, “What’s the “nut” we’ve gotta crack, today?”)

Most Dentists don’t know this number. Yet, it’s one that must be on your mind. Day in and day out. (If you asked me for mine from either business, I can give you YTD, last month’s and 2017.)

Bottom line is this:

If your overhead is bigger than you want it (and bigger than it should be), unlike some “big” things,” it’s nothing to brag about.

Instead, may I be so bold as to say it should be embarrassing.

So, what’s too high of an overhead?

The “average” American dentist’s overhead is 73% according to an article written by Dr. Bill Blatchford (from DE’s website).

That leaves 27% for profit.

Contrast and compare that to several ClearPath Society® Members of mine who’ve pushed their overhead down – three I am familiar with, to 43%, 55%, and 51.5% in another.

You might think they are better at buying supplies than you. Or, they have an advantage of some kind that you do not.

Both are absolutely 100% true. They both had massive advantages most solo Dentists do not.

What’s their massive advantage?

They’ve studied and learned the lessons of business.

Not as they are taught by the mimicking parrot-consultants in Dentistry, but as they occur in reality in the business world.

As an example, they listen to real experts in business in dentistry. And, they pay attention to what their message is. Matter of fact, they don’t just listen, they listen and they take action.

If you’re frustrated with your overhead and would like to see it drop, there are three simple steps to take (no, I didn’t say it’d be EASY!):

Lower Your Overhead In 3 Steps:

1. Lower expenses (a review of every expense you have is in order)
2. Increase production and collections (this is by far the most effective and fastest to take hold and make an impact aside from slicing your payroll)
3. Get hooked up with guys/gals like our interviewees and myself who study and know business, then listen, take notes and make changes.

I can’t do 1 or 2 for you, but I can help you with the 3rd.
